The role

Reporting to Head of Regulatory Services, Personal Lending

To provide support to the Head of Regulatory Services, responsible for the complete Contract Management cycle as well as general commercial advice.

Working closely with Sector Heads within Cards and Loans, contributing to the 2007-10 business plans for the Cards and Loans business, through the provision of first class contractual and commercial advice;•Manage day to day contract drafting process ensuring agreed sign-off and Bank governance procedures adhered to; particularly management of contracts outsourced to external legal firms, including costs benchmarking; liaise with relevant parties (internal and external) and respond;

Maintain the agreed Contract Management Policy, ensuring requirements clearly communicated to business managers and changes in Bank policy (e.g. Outsourcing) are reflected therein;

Maintain and manage a process for the evaluation of contracts, specifically those approaching re-sign and those not in budget, to ensure profitability is maintained;

Maintain bibliography of approved drafting and contractual templates to ensure efficient use/resolution of requested contractual iterations; maintenance of contracts library.

Safeguard Bank’s interest at all times; whilst balancing commercial pragmatism with clear risk assessment (I.e. optimising risk/reward);Prepare information for Head of Regulatory Services by collating and disseminating data, statistics and information from a variety of sources;

Provide business project management services for special projects [not mandatory requirement].

Candidate requirements

Significant and demonstrable experience operating in commercial contractual environments, ideally within Financial Services. Must have a thorough understanding of contracts (particularly ‘supplier’ and ‘marketing’ agreements) and risk management and the balance to be struck with commercial pragmatism.

Understanding and sound experience of legal terminology and ability to interpret and draft contractual terms and to provide advice and guidance thereon. Excellent interpersonal and relationship skills with the ability to influence at all levels. Must be an adaptable and determined problem solver, with an ability to spot (and implement) opportunities. Does not lose sight of the ‘big picture’.

Experience and capability to deliver consistently high results on a regular basis, ability to re-prioritise workloads to meet changing timeframes and business needs. Self-motivated, able to work on own initiative without being overly-supervised.

Well developed negotiating skills and commercial acumen, with the ability to contribute to the day-to-day development of the business.
